Baroness Orczy's "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is set during the French Revolution when hundreds of innocent people are becomign victims to Madame la Guillotine. But one man, under the mysterious name of the Scarlet Pimpernel works to rescue aristocrats from this gruesome death. However, every hero needs a needs a nemesis and the Scarlet Pimpernel has one named Chauvelin, a ruthless patriot who is intent on sending the meddling Englishman to the guillotine. I would definitely recommend this book -- it is intense and fast paced. Orczy's writing is full of vivid descriptions, making it delightfully intriguing. You might find yourself not able to put it down!
