This is the second book in the series of unfortunate events series and they are going to live with their Uncle MOnty after they were taken away from their Count Olaf. The Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, are now leaving to go to live with their Uncle Money, who is a herpotologist. He has so many snakes in his house, and the kids love it there, much better than Count Olaf's. Uncle Monty is even going to Peru to look for snakes, and he is taking the children. But then, Stephano, who is supposed to be their assistant but it is Count Olaf in disguise. He keeps a knife with him and threatens the kids. The kids are insuspicion he is trying to take his snake he found by himself, the incredibly deadly viper. But then, Uncle Monty is found dead, and the doctor foudn poison from teh Mamba du Mal in his blood, but Violet breaks into Stephano's suitcae and finds the vial of poison from MOnty's cabinet, and a tiny knife to make it look like a snake did it. But, when the kids try to get him, Sunny bits the doctor's hand and it comes off, revealing the hook hand, one of Olaf's friends, and the two get away, and the kids go to find a new home.
