Jade Green: A Ghost Story
by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
|
This book is about a girl named Judith Sparrow who gets to live
in her Uncle's house because her mother died in a madhouse and
her father died. But she soon finds from a worker at the hat
shop (the place where she recently got a job), named Violet
Morrison, that a girl named Jade Green used to live there but
died because she cut her own hand off. From then on she is haunted
by the severed hand of Jade Green. Also she finds out why the
color green is forbidden in the house; it is because it is Jade
Green's favorite color, but she brings in green anyways-a green
silk frame with her mother's photo in it. Judith finds love
in Zeke a young delivery boy. Judith tells Zeke of her fear
of Charles, her 40-year-old cousin. Eventually a hurricane comes
to the town of Wispers so everyone is running. Jade stays behind
with Zeke to board up the windows and Charles locks Zeke out
and tried to rape Judith! And when Charles comes into the house
Judith grabs a knife then Charles tells Judith how Jade died.
He killed her because she was in the same position Judith is
in. Then Charles sees the hand and Judith runs to let Zeke in
and when they come back Charles is dead and the hand is gone.
