Wicked
by Gregory Maguire

Wicked is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West's childhood and rise to the infamous witch. The book begins by telling the story of how she came to be; a big green mistake. Elphaba, the witch, then gets admission to the illustrious Shiz College. While there, she befriends Glinda, a prim and proper roommate of Elphaba. After the "death" of a chaperone, Elphaba runs off and joins a resistance group. As death and conspiracy followed her, she went to Vinkus in seek of forgiveness. While there, Dorothy arrives and Elphaba's life begins to unravel. Dorothy is told by the not-so-wonderful Wizard of ZOZ to kill the witch. When Dorothy reaches the witch's castle, Elphaba threatens Dorothy with a broom on fire; lighting her dress on fire in the process. Dorothy then tried to save her by splashing her with water. Elphaba then died. I did enjoy reading the book.
