The Maze
by Will Hobbs

Rick Walker is your typical teenage orphan. He has had many foster homes, but cannot stay out of trouble long enough to get adopted. He reads "Escape from the Maze," a story of Greek mythology, and compares his life to a maze in which he is the rat. He's hit a dead end and cannot find the strength to turn around and start over again. He escapes his youth detention center in Nevada and finds his way to a national park in Utah. He meets Lon Peregrino, a crusty old man with a past much like Rick's. Lon and his charges, six endangered condors, help show Rick what the joy of flying means and give him the strength to turn his life around.
