Island of the
Bluej Dolphins
by Scott O'Dell
|
This story is mainly about a teenage Indian girl who is ;left
alone on her home island when her tribe sailed away to find
a new place to make their home. When she is left on the island
she is forced to use only her knowledge of the island to survive
for 18 years alone. This book was unique because it's her survival
story. I would recommend it to older people about my age, but
not much younger because it is very detailed and many people
and animals die in this book and the descriptions may be frightening
to a younger reader. I really did enjoy reading this book. It
was hard to put down because I always wanted to figure out what
happened next.

Karana is left alone on a beautiful but lonely island off the
coast of California. The young Indian girl spends eighteen years
on the island, surviving through her enormous amount of courage
and self-reliance. She also finds that through loneliness and
terror comes strength and calmness and great happiness in her
life. The Island of the Blue Dolphins is unique in many ways.
That is why I enjoyed reading it so much. When I was reading
the book, I was captured by the words. I felt like I was with
Karana in all her adventures. This book was so enjoyable to
read that I would definitely recommend the title to anyone who
loves animals, nature, and most of all adventures.
