Gangsters at the Grand Atlantic is set in 1925/ Emily Scot is
a twelve year old girl who lives in Philadelphia during the
time of bootlegging, the act of selling illegal alcohol. One
night, two gangsters threaten Mr. Florio, the grocery clerk
who owns the grocery store at the bottom of Emily's apartment.
They attack Mr. Florio with Emily as a witness. The same night,
Emily's sister, Dorothy receives a telegram from her friend
from college. Dorothy and Emily go to the Grand Atlantic, a
hotel in New Jersey. They had been invited by Dorothy's friend.
Emily's mother thinks Emily will be safe there, but she is wrong.
The book was unique because I have never read a book about bootlegging
and gangsters. I enjoyed reading this book because I finished
it in less than one day. I would recommend this book to my friends
because it might interest them.
