The Bean Trees
by Barbara Kingsolver

In this ironic tale of spontaneous motherhood, the reader is introduced to immigration, single motherhood, and poverty issues. The main character Taylor Greer avoids pregnancy in her small hick town only to leave and have a child dumped into her hands. As the book progresses she goes from someone who asks "what am I going to do with you?" to someone who is inseperable from her newfound daughter. Follow Taylor from her journey from home into a self-made mother, in the Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.
