The City of Ember
by Jeanne DuPrau

I just read a really cool and good book called The City of Ember. It was about a city surrounded by darkness and the only light in the city was run by electricity. An underground river ran a generator which was the source of electricity. Every now and then, the generator will stop and the lights will flicker on and off. Just when all of the citizens are sure that they're doomed a girl named Lina finds instructions that her baby sister had torn. When one of her friends, Doon, finds out that the mayor had been stealing all of the supplies, he and Lina are charged for spreading vicious rumors. Using the instructions, Lina and Doon escape from the city and come onto the surface of the Earth. Then they send a note to the other citizens of Ember that you have to escape. I could really connect with Doon because we both like to find things out. I hope my friends read this book because I really enjoyed it.

In the City of Ember, two friends, Doon and Lina, set out on a quest to save their crumbling city. It all starts with a mysterious box hidden inside Lina's closet and ends in an exciting adventure to … well, who can tell. I enjoyed this book because of the suspense, excitement, adventure, and friendship. I definitely recommend reading it, no matter what type of book you like.

I recently read the book "The City of Ember". This fascinating story was about a dark city underground. Lina Mayfleet, the main character, has just been assigned her job as Messenger. Running across town, for there are no telephones, she notices the now flickering lights that once lit Ember. She, with her new friend, Doon Harrow, tries to find their way out of this dark city by deciphering a chewed up message. Can they save Ember? Find out by reading this story. I'd give it two thumbs up and actually recommend it to my friend.

The City of Ember is in trouble, they are running out of food and supplies that the Builders left for the city people. Lina and Doon know that the city must be saved. Lina finds directions out of the city but doesn't know that. Some parts of the directions are missing where Poppy (Lina's baby sister) chewed on them. Once Lina figures out what they say she and Doon go to the pipe works where the exit of Ember is. When they escape they send a note to the rest of the people telling them how to get out of Ember. I enjoyed reading this book because I think Jeanne Duprau has a lot of imagination.

City of Ember is one of my favorite books. It was in a city with no sun, surrounded by blackness, and running short on necessities. Reading the book was quite amazing to actually see that in this city things I eat and have a large supply of are scarce and barely ever seen or eaten. After reading this book I tried not to take such advantage of the things I have. This is a great story that everyone should get a chance to read! It is uniquely written and where they city is seems like nowhere. In my own words I would say they were in "another dimension". It is very interesting. Once you get started you cannot stop!
