EXTERIOR OF STANDARD FRAMING.
ABOVE TEXT READS:
"Illustration of the St. Charles Car Company's standard framing adopted for passenger cars; the portion in the centre shows the trussing; that on the left the filling out with 3/4 X 2-inch thick wood of the spaces between the posts and cross ribs. The part to the left of centre illustrates the ceiling 3/4 X 2 inches tongued and grooved and glued on to the side of car. On bottom of the car we apply four cross-ties and two 12-inch iron transoms to which the truss-rod anchors are secured. Truss-rods 1 1/2-inch with Cleveland forged turn-buckles; roof illustrates the location of the six steel carlines and framing of the hood; the end of car below belt rail is also filled out with 3/8-inch boards fitted into the rabbetted portion of the posts.
The photo of inside of car illustrates the small braces held in place by means of hook rods, which run through the side sills; it also shows the method of securing the carlines to the lower deck plate which has countersunk holes through which the joint bolts pass into the side carlines; it further illustrates the blocking of the inside of the planks and the truss planks running from end to end of the car."
