For comparison, the prior year's history of corporate and municipal bond rating activity is also provided.

Mergent Manuals (Moody's Manuals)

Published annually and updated weekly through a series of news reports online and in print, these various manuals provide information on over 25,000 U.S. and non-U.S. corporate entities and over 8,500 municipal and government securities issuers. In general, entries for companies include a short history, a description, number of employees, information on the business's buildings, information on subsidiaries, key officers, detailed financial information, and a myriad of other miscellaneous facts (annual meeting dates, legal counsel, etc.). The manuals that focus on government entities report items such as tax allocations, revenues and expenditures, etc.

Wall Street Words

This little book has a lot to offer: almost 4,000 terms are defined; investment tips from industry experts; case studies that illustrate specific terms and give a better understanding of how the concept operates in the "real-world"; and an explanation of the terminology used to describe technical charts.

Investment Statistics Locator

Locating a specific statistic (especially in the world of investments) can be exceedingly difficult. This resource indexes twenty-two of the leading sources for investment statistics in one place, allowing the user to quickly locate the best resource for the desired information. Headings are arranged in alphabetical order with subheadings beneath and divisions provided for various frequencies (monthly, weekly, annually, etc.).

Standard & Poor's Corporation Records

Contains descriptions of publicly held corporations. Each entry contains a section for capitalization, a short corporate background, stock data, and earnings and finances. Cumulative news items are also contained in each update.

Mergent Industry Review

A statistical resource that contains financial information, operating data, and ratios for over 2,900 companies. The entries are organized by industry, and each industry contains a table of comparative statistics. Also included in each industry's entry are rankings of companies in the following categories: revenues, profitability, operating profit margin, net income and return on capital, market evaluation of the stock, price/earnings ratio and yield, and price behavior of the stock.

Unlisted stocks have been called quiet, secret, and hidden. This resource presents information difficult to obtain anywhere else - contact information, financials, a brief history, and commentary on these increasingly popular companies.

Directory of Companies Offering Dividend Reinvestment Plans

Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRP's) are plans in which dividends are invested in stock rather than being paid to stockholders. This directory lists companies that participate in DRP's and includes: company name; S&P Ranking (when available); address; costs; purchase limits; and possible restrictions.

Handbook of Common Stocks

Quarterly publication that provides performance trends and financial summaries (key financial data, histories, company descriptions, stock price charts, dividend payments, discussions of recent developments and short/long term price scores) on over 950 NYSE and AMEX companies considered to be of the highest interest to investors. A tabular section at the end of each handbook provides more limited information on all NYSE companies that are not given full coverage.

Walker's Manual of Penny Stocks

Why are they called penny stocks? Well, their value is under $5. Similar to Walker's Manual of Unlisted Stocks, this publication provides information difficult to obtain on companies that are often overlooked when people are assembling their investment portfolios.

Value Line Mutual Fund Survey

A source for rating mutual funds. Each fund's entry features a short commentary divided into sections about recent developments and management style and includes information about the fund's portfolio and past performance. Value Line also gives the fund an overall rating and a risk rating.

Formerly a loose-leaf publication with separate volumes for each stock exchange it is currently published about every 6 weeks as a soft-cover. While the emphasis is on factual analysis, each company is given a rank, from A+ to D. It also includes a business summary with outlook, a business profile, operational review, key stock statistics, balance sheet information, income statement analysis, and per share data for the past 10 years.

Value Line Investment Survey (Basic & Expanded)

A source that provides information about various stocks. Included in the entry for each stock is a brief commentary, past performance, financial information about the company, current information about the stock's price, price-earnings ratio, and dividend yield. Also included are Value Line's Timeliness, Safety, and Technical Ratings. The Expanded edition of the Value Line Investment Survey covers small- and mid-cap stocks that are not included in the regular edition.

Barron's Finance & Investment Handbook
