internship programs.

One of the most
exhaustive directories devoted to sources of venture capital, this directory
includes over 3,100 entries (1,400 domestic and 1,700 international). In
addition to the name, address, phone, fax, and web site for each firm, the
listings may also contain the mission statement, industry group preferences,
portfolio companies, geographic preferences, average and minimum investments,
and investment criteria. When available, extensive biographical information on
the firm’s key executives is also provided. Locating entries is possible
through one of five indexes: college/university, exeuctive name, geographic,
industry, and portfolio companies.

Comprehensive directory
of all bank offices in the world that engage in any of the following activities:
accept deposits, lend money, extend credit, issue currency, or facilitate funds
transfers. Divided into five volumes (two volumes for the United States, two
volumes for the rest of the world, and a one volume "Correspondents
Guide"), this resource is published every six months.

This is the only
directory devoted exclusively to the thrift industry and it provides financial
profiles, contact information, ownership, and data on fund transfers. In
addition to the directory of thrifts, numerous statistical tables and
directories of regulators, trade associations, and government organizations are
also provided.

Provides contact
information for over 11,500 mortgage brokers nationwide. Additional information
may include: market area, mortgage loan types orignated, number of employees,
whether the company is an approved FHA correspondent to originate FHA insured
mortgages, whether the company is approved by the VA, what associations the
broker belongs to, and any additional branch offices.

This directory limits its
content to companies having at least 100 or more employees (although all
locations of a corporate family and all publicly-traded companies are included
regardless of the number of employees at each location). Like many other
directories, listings are provided alphabetically, by city, and by SIC code.
There is also a directory of key executives and directors that allows for
linking key personnel with the appropriate company.

Providing information on
over 170,000 manufacturers with twenty or more employees, this resource is
organized in three separate sections across two volumes: alphabetically by

For those who need to get
a product to market, this is an indispensable directory. Four sections provide
information on over 27,400 wholesalers and distributors across the United
States: main entry – broken down by broad subject categories (company name,
contact information, product line, SIC code(s), year established, sales, number
of employees, officers, and variant names); SIC index; geographic index; and
alphabetic index.

Missouri companies engaged in any service (non-manufacturing) industry. Main
company listings are in the geographical section and include: company name;

Three-volume directory containing information on more than
75,000 companies and 389,000 officers, directors, and other principal
executives. Volume one (corporate listings) lists companies alphabetically and
provides standard directory information. Volume two (individual listings)
contains brief biographical information on over 71,000 key executives (principal
business affiliations, official titles, year and place of birth, college and
year of graduation, fraternal memberships, and e-mail address). Volume three
(indices) contains several useful indices: SIC code, geographical, corporate
family, obituaries, new individuals, and new companies.

A six-volume set of books
with a variety of uses that covers public and private companies in both the U.S.
and abroad. Listings for each company contain descriptions, addresses and
telephone numbers, URLs if available, the year founded, revenue, assets,
liabilities, net worth, earnings, number of employees, fiscal year ending date,
key personnel, auditors, legal firms, registrars, transfer agents, and, most
notably, information on subsidiaries, divisions, and non-U.S. holdings.
Information on brand names and corporate responsibilities is also included.
69 – D&B Principal International Businesses

This directory contains
key information on about 50,000 of the largest business in the world (excluding
those found in the United States). Like most other directories, information is
presented in three ways: geographically, by product classification, and
alphabetically.
75 – Ward’s Business Directory

This resource is one of
the most comprehensive directories available for both public and private
companies. Each entry includes contact information, sales, number of employees,
year founded, company type, ticker and exchange (when applicable), URL,
corporate lineage, SIC(s), NAICS, a brief description of the business, key
officers, and whether the company imports and/or exports. Additional volumes
provide geographic listings by ZIP code, special lists, rankings by sale within
4-digit SIC, state rankings by sale within 4-digit SIC, and state rankings by
sale within 6-digit NAICS. Portions also available on Business and Company
Resource Center.
76 – Sorkins Directory of Business & Government

Sorkins provides
information about "public and privately-held companies; professional firms;
consultancies and proprietorships; non-profit organizations, institutions, or
agencies; income-producing properties; legal industries; federal, state, county,
and municipal level government entities; and any type of public authority, tax
district or quasi-governmental agency" for specific metropolitan areas.
Each listing includes such information as the entity's address and telephone
number, revenue, number of employees, year founded, key personnel, and a short
description of the business or governmental unit. Although directories are
available for St. Louis, Chicago, and Kansas City in print, online, and on
CD-ROM, the library currently has only the print version of the St. Louis
directory.

This resource provides
more than just a directory of executive recruiters – it also contains valuable
information for those who would like to contact an executive recruiter. The
directory itself contains standard information: company name, contact
information, a description, key personnel, salary minimums, and job functions
and industries that it recruits for. Several indices help in locating the
desired information: job function, industry, recruiter specialty, geographic,
and alphabetical.

This resource provides
information on over 30,000 consulting firms. Entries include basic contact
information, year founded, primary consulting activities, primary types of
customers, geographic area served, listings of executives, and locations of
other offices (if applicable). Firms may be located alphabetically,

American and Canadian – with a brief section on foreign – companies that
offer franchises to the public. Information offered includes: name and contact
information, description of the business, number of units currently operating
(with a breakdown for those that are company owned and those that are
franchised), applicable fees and royalties, and whether the company offers
financing. More general information on how to investigate the franchisor, state
regulations, contract terms, and contract rights is also provided.

more detailed company descriptions and catalogs of select companies. Two indexes
(trade names and products and services) are provided in the last volume of
"Products and Services."

Covering companies that
spend a minimum of $200,000 on national and regional advertising, this resource
lists companies alphabetically within broad categories. For each company, the
following information is provided: company name and contact information,
approximate sales, number of employees, a description of the business, SIC
code(s), total advertising expenditures (total and broken down by media), the
advertising media that are used, key personnel, tradenames, and ad agencies.
Several indexes are also provided: product categories by state, brand name
index, SIC code index, and a personnel index. Information on the leading
advertisers in numerous categories, companies with in-house ad production, and a
brief directory of companies offering various services and supplies is also
provided.
