ADULT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
SUBJECT: GENERALITIES -- 000
Description: The library will collect materials about knowledge in general, bibliographic instruction, controversial knowledge (UFOs, the Loch Ness monster, and the Bermuda Triangle, for example), bibliographies, indexes and catalogs, library and informational sciences, encyclopedias and other encyclopedic works, organizations, publishing, and miscellaneous collections.
Influencing factors: Many of the sources in the 000 section dealing with library science will be housed in the professional collection. The professional collection contains non-circulating materials relating to library and information sciences, primarily for staff use, and is housed at the Spencer Road Branch. Computer books are currently in high demand and will be collected extensively.
Retention: Retrospective retention of library and informational science materials and bibliographies is necessary. Timeliness is important for encyclopedias, computer books, and information on organizations.
Current selection: Current encyclopedias and computer books are a primary consideration.
Retrospective selection: Retrospective development will include replacement of missing and/or worn titles as necessary.
