SUMMARY:
Overall responsibility for the District's catalog, including original and complex cataloging, database maintenance, and authority control, according to acceptable national standards. Serves as the resource person for staff in the areas of cataloging and authority control. Responsible for coordinating adult and juvenile cataloging as well as responsible for reviewing existing process and procedures. Works cooperatively with Deputy Director, staff librarians, Childrens' Services, Technical Operations, Information Technology Departments to maintain the District's catalog database.
Performs professional duties requiring the exercise of professional skill, initiative and independent judgement. Assignments are given in broad terms of general objectives and performed with administrative direction only. Also, works in the general reference area of a branch library responding to initial inquiries in person and by telephone.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have knowledge of the functions of public libraries; have excellent communication and organizational skills; and have general computer literacy. Must have an accredited Masters in Library Science degree and at least 1 year relevant experience. Must have comprehensive knowledge of Dewey classification and LC subject headings, AACR2 and MARC formats. Prefer knowledge of OCLC bibliographic utility.
