Householder Scholarship


Amount

  1. The Foundation will annually grant scholarship(s) equivalent to the earnings generated from the interim return on the financial corpus of the restricted fund known as the Jane Householder Memorial Scholarship.
  2. Should market returns fall negative any year, the Foundation Board will establish and grant the maximum amount from other income and assets as possible and in keeping with the Board's fiduciary responsibilities.

Eligibility

  1. Library staff employed as Paraprofessionals, Library Assistants, or Support Staff on Salary Tracks A through E may apply for the scholarship.
  2. Eligibility will be based on completion of at least one year of employment with the St. Charles City-County Library District.

Qualifying Endeavors

  1. The funded activities should concentrate on improving the recipient's general knowledge, skills, or abilities.
  2. The funded activity should not be directly associated with Library Science.
  3. Areas which potentially qualify include, but should not be limited to, technology, interpersonal skills, supervisory development, customer service, or specific topical continuing education, e.g. the sciences, arts, genealogy, language, or the humanities.
  4. Instruction must be delivered through a recognized provider such as a community college, university, adult education division, technical school, governmental subdivision, or professional seminar service.

Covered Expenses

  1. Scholarship funds may be applied to tuition or enrollment fees, required texts or essential materials, and any supplemental fees mandated by the provider (e.g. general activity fees, computer access fees, etc. imposed by most colleges and universities).
  2. If the activity sponsored requires travel beyond 50 miles the recipient may include reimbursement at the Library District's standard mileage rate, and for meals at the District's standard meal allowances.

Payment to Recipient

  1. The Foundation will issue checks to the provider of sponsored continuing education to cover enrollment or registration fees, or will pay approved amounts directly to the recipient depending on which is most efficient and cost effective.
  2. Recipients must provide receipts or documentation to substantiate appropriate expenditure of Foundation funds issued directly to recipients.
