Workday & Meal Periods

The workweek shall begin at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday and extend through midnight on Saturday. Employees working in public service may have a rotating shift, which may include evenings and weekends.

Meal periods for employees are scheduled according to the branch/department needs. Normally the 30-minute meal period is not paid time. However, employees will be paid for a 30-minute meal period if they are scheduled to work 5 consecutive hours on Saturday or 5 hours after 4:00 p.m. on an evening shift.

As the schedule and work requirements allow, employees are encouraged to take a 5 to 15 minute paid break for every 4 hours of work. Break and meal periods are not to be taken during the first and last hour of scheduled work.

Employees who are in the Administrative Offices are usually scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., which includes a 30 minute meal period.
