Description of Categories

  1. Community Information – This category is designed to provide easy access to general information about community events, general profiles of  St. Charles County, the metropolitan area, and Missouri as well as quick access to information about nonprofit organizations serving the community.

  2. Ethical Standards – This section is designed to provide models of ethical standards and practices that are currently used by nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations use ethical standards to show the public that they are honest and accountable in their dealings, which in turn, improves public confidence in the organization.

  3. Federal & State – This section is designed to provide links to federal and state information targeted to the operational needs of nonprofits. Using these links information directed to nonprofits by the IRS and state and federal FAQ’s, forms, and more can be easily accessed.

  4. Fundraising – This section is focused toward providing access to information provided by experienced fundraising professionals in the nonprofit and commercial sectors.  In this area you will find multiple resources to aid in the development of a planned giving program.

  5. Grant Support – This area provides access to information at several levels of the grant seeking and writing process. In this section links are provide that direct the user to public and private sites designed to aid grant seekers in their search for funding. In addition, this area offers access to broad ranges of organizations, both public and private, that supply their expertise in the grant writing process.

  6. Incubation & Startup – This section provides a basic eight-step process to setting up a 501(c)(3) in the state of Missouri. In addition, links are provided to allow easy access to state and federal forms and publication, informational support numbers, as well as recommend reading.

  7. Management & Leadership – This category is designed to provide information on building management/leadership skills. The links provided cover general information support, financial reporting, board development, and employee issues and salaries.

  8. National Forums – This area provides easily accessible links to useful nonprofit groups that support nonprofit functions.  This section has three primary areas Bulletin Boards / Discussion Lists , National Societies, and Publications / Newsletters.

  9. Planned Giving – This category provides links to national planned giving associations and provides many resources that will help in setting up a planned giving campaign.

  10. Prospecting – Selected resources are provided in this section to aid users in the process of conducting prospect research for their organizations. Areas highlighted in this section include internet sites useful in gathering information on businesses, individuals and nonprofits..

  11. Volunteer Management – This section covers topics geared for everyone; from the volunteer to the volunteer manager. Links to National volunteer management organizations provide information about management, career development, and support groups. While the links to the volunteer matching databases can be used by the volunteer looking for new opportunities.

  12. WatchDog Groups – This section is to provide links to groups that rate charities and foundations to help donors make informed giving decisions.
