Full Time:            40+ hours per week
Schedule:            Monday-Friday, evenings and weekends as needed.


  • Oversee and direct overall operations of the branch libraries; ensures general operation of the libraries are aligned with the District’s mission and core values.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, other community agencies and the public.
  • Development of policies and procedures relative to the delivery of services to the public through our branches.
  • Work closely with branch managers to ensure customer service issues are resolved in a timely and consistent manner.  Offer policy interpretation to the branches for providing consistent service standards.
  • Serve as the Administrator in Charge of daily operations in the Director’s absence.
  • Assist the Director with long range planning; including assessment and development of programs, services, and facilities.
  • Attend library board meetings and provide periodic reports as requested.



MLS from an ALA accredited program, MBA, or  MPA.  Eight years professional experience with a minimum of four years in an administrative capacity.


  • Ability to instill the importance of using the District’s mission, vision, and values as the basis for all decisions in the branches and departments.
  • Ability to engage various library constituencies to assess their interests and needs for future development and implementation of library programs and services.
  • Ability to think analytically and to develop new or revised systems, procedures,  and work flow
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form
  • Ability to make administrative decisions, interpret policies, and supervise staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sufficient personal mobility to monitor, supervise, and perform assigned library operations, and to attend meetings at various locations. 
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate well with employees and customers.
  • Sufficient vision to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form.

Benefits & Salary:  Strong benefit package including healthcare insurance and LAGERS retirement plan.

Salary Track:  K-L.   $73, 680 to $89,616 for Masters Degree.  Candidates with second Masters Degree are eligible for higher earnings with Director approval.
